It was Aveh's first time in a commercial spaceship. The seats were more comfortable, no doubt, and of course the overpriced snacks were different, but she still felt uneasy not being in control of the ship. All she'd been able to do the whole flight was sleep, walk around a bit and look out the window at the starry fields she had once patrolled. The TV in front of her was boring. The exercise room that the spaceship had on its second floor was always crowded, even when it was the dead of the night in the timezones the passengers came from. Aveh had listened to a news station from Rilesia for a little while, but when the dull news had started to loop again, she'd shut it off and went back to staring out the window. It didn't take them long to leave Nicta's territory in space and to head out farther than she'd ever been from her home planet. The star patterns and nebulae had ceased to be familiar. It only served to make her feel uneasy. It was a stark reminder of how far she was going -- and she'd only get farther from Nicta still.
Finally, they landed on Arplakoon, the center of the whole galaxy. Since she'd been asleep, Aveh had missed going by Arplakoon's suns, but it wasn't a huge loss. She would never need to know what path the spaceships took when landing on Arplakoon. The ship's artificial gravity turned off. Small arrows on the floor and ceiling illuminated the path to the exit.
"We've reached Arplakoon." The flight attendant's voice crackled over the intercom. "Please make sure you take your luggage with you if this is your final stop. This flight will return back to Fol Atzo, Rilesia on Nicta in four hours; flight schedules for other space shuttles departing from Arplakoon are posted on channel nine on your TV sets. Thank you for choosing Redtail Shuttles."
Aveh hadn't taken a large suitcase with her since she knew that all of Arplakoon's Chrono Rings had an inventory app already installed on them. Instead, she had a small bag that had a few necessities and trinkets (such as her knife, though the knife's presence meant that it had to be stored in the ship's weapon cargo near the front). After retrieving her knife and storing it safely in the utility belt slung over her shoulder, Aveh stepped off of the ship and onto Arplakoon soil.
It was incredibly different from Nicta.
For one thing, there was mist everywhere, and for another, there wasn't a sky. She could clearly see everything up in space from where she was standing. In fact, the starry "sky" was something she'd never seen from on a planet before. Rilesia was too polluted to have a distinctly star-covered night sky. Aveh was interrupted from her poixon-out-of-water moment by a cainos accidentally bumping into her. When she turned to face him, he quickly muttered an apology and went around to the back of the spaceship, presumably to retrieve his luggage. Well, that didn't matter. Looking around, she easily spotted the only landmark on the whole planet: the Altar of Arplakoon, surrounded by a group of statues she knew from school as the Order of Arplakoon. So many "X's of Arplakoon". But she had to get a Chrono Ring from them. How was she supposed to ask? Their military commanders had visited Arplakoon to get Chrono Rings, certainly, but Aveh had never gotten her own herself before. Was there a certain way she had to go about this? Were there prerequisites she had to meet first?
Standing around here wouldn't do anything. Taking a deep breath, Aveh slowly approached the Altar of Arplakoon. Curiously enough, most of the other Kylians who had gotten off the ship weren't even talking to the Order. They were either wandering around, impatiently waiting for a ship, or taking pictures. It didn't take long for Aveh to reach the Altar itself and come face-to-face with the members of the Order of Arplakoon.
Aveh cleared her throat, still trying to figure out what to say. "Pardon me, Order of Arplakoon, but I've come for a Chrono Ring."
