The Ailnyk Galaxy is not a problem-free paradise; people all over have problems that need to be solved, and they're more than willing to employ the help of anyone who asks. Websites like Hero4Hire have risen up specifically so that people who have problems can hire somebody else to help take care of it. These quest givers are often more than gracious in their rewards; doing quests is often far more profitable than simply hunting monsters. However, characters are only allowed to take one quest at a time. Once they finish the quest (either by failing it, giving up on it or successfully completing it), they may take a new one.
There are several types of quests; more may exist, but these are the most common:
In all of these quests, a mod must be present in the thread. Please put [Quest] somewhere in your thread title so a mod knows to take it and do the quest if you're in the right area for it. Linking to the place you got the quest from is also very helpful for the mod. In the case of a Mark quest, the mod will role play whatever you are hunting; for Escort, the mod will role play the NPC. For a Recover quest, the mod will role play whatever needs to be recovered (i.e. they will post you finding whatever needs to be found). For a Delivery quest, they will post things impeding your path on your way to your destination.
No matter the type of quest, things will not always go smoothly; monsters or enemy Kylians may attack. Stay on your toes, and you will succeed!
Quests will always follow this format:
In-character spiel about the quest; this is the NPC telling your character what to do.
Quest Reward: The reward for successfully completing the quest.
Quest Level: The level of what enemies will appear if you take this quest. A plus next to a number means that the enemies will scale with your level if you're of a higher level (e.g. a level six character taking a 5+ quest will run into level six monsters, but a level four character would run into level five monsters), whereas a hyphen means enemies will only appear between that level (e.g. 5-10 means you'll only run into 5-10 monsters, regardless of your level). Mods will usually make monsters appear in level as close to your character as possible.
Quest Instructions: These are out-of-character instructions that will tell you what boards and threads to go to and post in. This is so you, as the role player, are not left guessing as to what boards the NPC is talking about, especially if they're vague about it.
In italics, there will be notes on who can take the quest and how often. If the quest notes that only one person can take it, it's first come, first serve; you can't take the quest if someone else has already posted saying they're taking it. Similarly, if it says anyone can take it, then you may take the quest even if somebody else already has, and you can re-take the quest after completing it if it says you can.
If someone fails the quest or decides to give it up for whatever reason, then somebody will note in the quest that the taker is no longer on it; if this happens, anyone can take the quest while following the notes on who can take it (e.g. if the quest was first come, first serve, then it still is, just for whoever takes it next).
There are several types of quests; more may exist, but these are the most common:
- Delivery: Bring an item, monster, etc to somebody in another board or thread.
- Mark: Hunt down and defeat a particular monster or Kylian.
- Recover: Go to a particular place and recover a particular item, Kylian, etc and bring it/him/her back to the quest-giver.
- Escort: Escort an NPC to another location.
